Our Marketing Manager, Charlotte Hanna, also picked up the award for Young Broker of the Year. Gaynor said: We’re absolutely delighted to pick up a double accolade at the UK Broker Awards.
16 Forests in and no signs of stopping!

Fantastic news! We’ve just agreed a deal to start work on our 16th forestry project in the UK. As you’ll no doubt know, we proudly offset 100% of our car and bike insurance customer’s CO2 emissions by planting trees, as well as any emissions generated by our recovery vehicles!

This process has seen us plant over 695,000 trees so far to date, with a further 635,000 to be planted in the first half of 2011.

The latest forestry project, Winterhope, will be home to around 135,000 trees to offset over 17,000 tonnes of CO2 in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

By next June we’ll have planted at least 1.3 million trees in the UK, covering an area more than three times the size of the City of London!

Fresh air in the Big Smoke: How London would look if we had our way.

We won’t be stopping at 16 forests either, there are plenty more places in the UK that we think could do with a sprinkling of green foliage! Check out the great work we’ve done so far by visiting our forestry project map.

Why not help our cause by recommending your friends to The Green Insurance Company? We’ll happily offset their emissions, and you can pocket some shopping vouchers for your trouble. Click here for more information

A supercar to make Grimple Smile

Supercars like Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Bugattis are known for their motoring prowess, innovative design and gas guzzling engines; rather than their eco friendly properties. However, Lamborghini have recently announced their plans to release an eco-supercar, which will be powered by integrated wind-turbines and solar panels.

The Lamborghini Countach EV, has all the high performance features of its predecessors but the 4 wind turbines and 2 solar panels shown in the diagram below charge an electric battery shown at the rear of the car.

This innovative design shows that even the finest of vehicles can have little or no carbon footprint, but with a pricetag of around £300,000, this particular car might be a little out of most people’s price range.

So what’s the alternative?

If your car doesn’t have wind turbines and solar panels to help reduce your carbon footprint, there is still something you can do to ensure your driving isn’t damaging the environment.

If you insure your car with The Green Insurance Company, we’ll completely offset 100% of your car’s carbon emissions by planting trees on your behalf in one of our 9 forestry projects across the UK. This service is completely free and is just one of many ways you can turn over a new green leaf.

Why not take your first step into a greener world and get a quote with The Green Insurance Company? You could save yourself some cash as well as doing your part to help the environment.

Climate change will affect insurance

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has warned that climate change will make insurance more expensive and harder to obtain.

They claim that rises in temperatures in the UK looks set to “significantly? increase the cost to insurers of the flood and windstorm damage. The group went on to warn that this increased cost to insurers would feed through into higher premiums for the public, and cause the insurers to be more cautious financially, leading to fall in the availability of cover.

The ABI worked with the Met Office and risk modelling group AIR Worldwide to look at the financial implications for insurers of predicted temperature increases of 2°C, 4°C and 6°C. It found the average cost of losses to insurers from river flooding and flash floods could rise by 14% to £633 a year if global temperatures rose by 4°C, which could happen by as early as by 2060.

Nick Starling, the ABI’s director of general insurance and health, said: “A two-degree temperature rise may be inevitable, but we can limit further increases.

“The clear message to world leaders meeting at the UN’s Copenhagen climate change summit in December is that they must reach agreement on ambitious emission reduction targets."

Thankfully The Green Insurance Company are here to make it easier than ever before to be green. We’ll continue to offset 100% of the carbon emissions of our customer’s vehicles. So far we’ve offet around 93,000 tonnes of C02 to combat climate change and keep your insurance premiums low!

Scottish government scheme to make homes 'greener'

The Green Insurance Company were delighted to hear this week that the Scottish government has unveiled a new scheme to make homes in Scotland 'greener'.

Scottish homeowners will be able to borrow up to £10,000 interest free to make their homes more energy efficient. The loans are part of the Energy Efficiency Action Plan, aimed at helping meet a target of cutting C02 emissions by 42% by 2020.

Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth John Swinney said: “Energy efficiency is a key part of our economic recovery programme and our climate change ambitions.

A waste of energy is a waste of money and with high fuel prices and the need to cut emissions, we must all take steps to cut energy use - in our homes, in the transport we use, in businesses and across the public sector.

You can reduce your homes CO2 emissions by having better insulation, more efficient boilers, or small renewable energy systems.

But there's more to being green than just what's in your home.

At The Green Insurance Company we'll provide you with a greener alternative to car insurance and breakdown cover by offsetting the Carbon emissions of your vehicle and giving 5% of our profits to an environmental charity.

Why not get a quote for your car insurance or breakdown cover today and take another step into a greener way of life?
