Forest Carbon and The Green Insurance Company achieve first validation under UK woodland code
The Green Insurance Company, along with Forest Carbon Ltd, are delighted to have gained the first ever validation of a UK woodland carbon project to the new Woodland Carbon Code.
The 43 acre native woodland at Milton of Mathers Farm, near Montrose was visited on the day by Stewart Stevenson MSP, the Scottish Minister for the Environment & Climate Change. Also in attendance to mark the occasion were the Forestry Commission, Forest Carbon and the farmer on whose land the trees now thrive.
The new Woodland Carbon Code provides a guarantee of the project’s quality and permanence.
Stewart Stevenson MSP welcomed the new Code saying it offered ‘a means of verifying the results against the claims made’ in respect of carbon benefits and that he expects it to 'encourage investment and deliver climate change mitigation'.
This fantastic project is protected by a 70 year contract, over which period it will remove 4,771 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere!
